Sports Marketing 2.0

Re-thinking sports marketing now that fans are in charge

In Europe ESA hold awards for the best sponsors of the year (Wrigley wins). And then there is the best sports website of the year (Chelsea wins).

But what is the best sports 2.0 case of the year? What brand, sports organization, media, platform, etc brought sports / sports marketing and new media / social media / mobile together best? Which initiative is an advertisement for what we stand for?

Please leave your thoughts below.

I have looked at quite a few websites over the past few months for research and think that Fulham FC of the English Premiership have made very good use of the NING network within their Cottage Corner of their website. They have now got over 1,300 members that are using the website now to discuss and arrange trips to football matches as well as other topics.
Although not using the same methods as Chelsea I would say this network is allowing the same benefits without having to facilitate many other types of social media use.

Gijsbregt - you can check the Fulham usage of NING via their site http://www.fulhamfc.com - click on Cottage Corner

One site not to be missed is BVB's - am sure you can get to it via official website but also located at http://www.meinbvb.de/ - allows for great interaction possibilities.

Loads of initiatives coming up all over European football though - e.g. http://www.detrotsvanhetzuiden.com/

Others seem to put their main focus on utilizing existing networks like facebook - Liverpool is with more than 1 mil fans in their group impressive.....on a smaller scale is for example Malmö FF who instead of starting a page themselves have gone in and officially supports a Malmö FF site set up by a fan - now promoting it as their official facebook page
